THE British Red Cross is holding an open event next month for anyone interested in volunteering with the charity.

On Tuesday, October 7 in Haverfordwest those interested can find out more about the various services that the Red Cross provides across the county as well as chat to staff and existing volunteers about the roles available.

Services provided by the charity include Gofal y Ddolen (which supports vulnerable and isolated people across South Wales), patient transfer, and community based first aid training.

First aid volunteers also cover sporting and public events, emergency response volunteers are deployed at times of crisis such as during severe weather, and retail volunteers help the smooth running of Red Cross shops.

Cara Evans, volunteer recruitment officer at the charity, said: “Without our dedicated volunteers we simply couldn’t provide the wide range of services we currently offer in Pembrokeshire.

“If we can encourage more volunteers to join our friendly team we will be able to reach even more members of our community who require additional support when they need it. I ask anyone who could offer a couple of hours a week to contact us and learn more about the varied work of the Red Cross – there really is something for everyone.”

If anyone is interested in learning more about the services of the Red Cross in Pembrokeshire, or would like to sign up as a volunteer with the charity, they are welcome to attend the open event at The Picton Centre between 4pm and 8pm.

All volunteers can expect full support and training and reasonable expenses will be paid.

Those who wish to find out more about the open event or volunteering in general can call Cara Evans on 01239 615 945 or e mail caraevans@redcross.org.uk.
