YOU can now watch Llangwm Local History Society’s sell-out World War 1 opera from the comfort of your own home, when the DVD goes on sale on Monday, March 2.

The production, WW1: A Village Opera played to full houses in Llangwm, Haverfordwest and Newport in November.

It was filmed during a special performance at the Merlin Theatre, Haverfordwest, by film maker Pam Hunt and cameraman Mark Evans, both from Llangwm.

History Society chair Jane Mills, plus cast and crew, viewed the film at a special showing at the Merlin Theatre earlier this month.

“Although most of the cast and crew were essentially amateurs, the high standard of their work, and that of the film makers, is obvious from the film”, said Jane.

“We’re delighted with it. It was quite an emotional moment seeing on screen the result of so many months of hard work”.

The opera was specially written by Llangwm-based composer Sue Howley and librettist Peter George from Newport, and it was funded by grants from, among others, the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Ministry of Defence’s Community Covenant.

The DVD will be on sale at the Victoria Bookshop, Haverfordwest and Llangwm Village Shop and Post Offfice at a price of £10.

There’s also the option of postal orders (£1 p&p) by emailing llangwmopera@yahoo.co.uk.
