LAST year, eight-year-old Dylan Allman raised £1000 for the Wallace and Gromit’s Children’s Charity by writing and selling a recipe book.

This summer, the keen cook from Llangwm is sticking with the culinary theme for his latest altruistic endeavour: running a one-day lemon-themed café on behalf of international charity WaterAid.

“I am really excited to run the Lemon Café because I love lemons and will be making home-made lemonade and lemon cakes,” said Dylan. “I need lots of lemons to make the lemonade so I hope that people will be able to donate some to me.”

The Cleddau Reach School pupil would also be grateful for lemon cakes to sell alongside his own creations at his Lemon Café, which will open from 11am to 2pm at Llangwm Village Hall on Monday, August 17.

Upton Farm is lending Dylan a freezer so he can add ice creams to the menu, and he will also run a competition asking people to guess how many citrus fruits were squeezed to make his lemonade.

Asked why he chose to support WaterAid, Dylan said: “I want to raise money for WaterAid because I couldn't believe how many families in the world can’t get clean water, it doesn't seem right. They also need things like taps and toilets too so I hope the money I make from the Café will help with this.”

The youngster has been working hard to promote his event, designing and distributing leaflets and posters, and is hoping lots of people will attend.

His proud mum, Lorraine, said: “Fundraising is something Dylan’s been doing from a young age, but what’s really wonderful about this is he’s learning new skills while having a lot of fun.”
