THE competition was fierce for this year’s Bridport Carnival Princess with seven girls singing and dancing for the judges.

After much deliberation it was 13-year-old Chloe-Amber Cash who wooed the judges with her rendition of the Tears for Fears song, Mad World.

Her attendants will be Sarah Williams, 13, who sang Crazier by Taylor Swift and Daniella Scadding 12, who accompanied herself on the guitar singing Dear Darlin’ by Olly Murs. Chloe said: “I wasn’t going to enter but I decided it would be fun. I didn’t expect to win but I am really glad that I entered. I am looking forward to representing the town.”

Daniella said: “I am really proud of myself, I can’t stop smiling.”

Sarah said: “I thought it would be a really good experience for me to have a try but I didn’t think I’d get this far. I am really excited and really proud of myself.”

There were only two entrants for the junior Princess title. Maddison Chant, 10, who gave a tae kwon do exhibition and Jennifer Sweet, nine, who won with her self-penned poem.

Jennifer said: “I entered because all my friends go to the carnival and I think they would be proud of seeing me there.”

Aiden Cooper, 11, who was the only boy to enter the prince competition, gave a martial arts display.

He said: “I wanted to enter even though I am a boy I shouldn’t be afraid to do this sort of thing. I go to the carnival every year and I am looking forward to going on a float.”

It was a good-natured crowd who gathered in the Conservative Club on Sunday to see for themselves what sort of talent Bridport youngsters had to offer.

Carnival committee chairman Shaun Fox thanked everyone for taking part and said every year judging seemed to get harder.
