MILFORD Haven Sea Cadets beat off fierce competition to claim bronze at the annual South West Area Drill and Piping Competition.

The competition, which was held earlier this month at the Royal Navy’s New Entry Training Establishment, HMS Raleigh based in Torpoint.

Milford Haven Unit entered the Standard Party Competition and also the Piping Team Competition after winning at the earlier held West Wales District Competition.

The Standard Party competition consisted of a uniform inspection, drill display using the correct routine, and movements as laid down by the Royal Navy Drill Manual and the smartness of the display.

The Piping Team competition consisted of a uniform inspection, with marks for precision, clarity and timing of five calls commonly used in the Royal Navy.

Milford Haven Sea Cadets were announced as the bronze medallists for being the Best Dressed/Smartest Standard Party out of the nine districts represented.

Chief Petty Officer (SCC) Beverley Jenkins, the Unit Officer in Charge, said: “Once again, the cadets are proving that Milford Haven Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets are still alive and kicking after an up and down year.

“The cadets make me proud at every competition they enter and wave the flag for Milford Haven youths.”
