TRADERS pitched up on Market Square on Saturday (July 19) for the launch of Milford Haven’s new weekly street market.

A fantastic first day saw customers from across the county pop by to pick up fresh local produce, home-baked goodies, clothing, gifts and even hand-painted furniture.

Market manager Byron Jenkins said it was great to see the square once again ‘bustling with people’, and showed that the site had huge potential to once again be a thriving weekly market.

“The market is already set to grow for the second week, with even more traders wanting to come and join,” he said.

“I would personally like to thank everyone, from the customers to the traders and not forgetting all the volunteers from the Milford Haven Business Circle who gave their time freely to help erect and dismantle the stalls,” he added.

Milford Haven Business Circle and Milford Haven Town Council have together invested £4,500 in the project, with a further £3,000 coming from the county council.

Councillor David Pugh, cabinet minister for the economy, officially opened the market, and said he hope it would increase trade within the town as a whole.

He added that the county council’s support was part of its commitment to regenerate Pembrokeshire’s major towns.

The new market will be open between 10am and 4pm every Saturday until Christmas.
