THE tasty sum of £700 was raised in memory of a much-missed granddad at a coffee and cake morning in Hakin on Saturday (September 27).

Organised by 13-year-old Georgia Adams, the fundraiser was part of cancer charity Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event, which helps fund support for people with cancer and their families.

With help from her family and best friend Carla Thompson, Georgia cooked up a storm, baking a delicious selection of cakes and treats to sell at the Church of the Holy Spirit.

While her culinary creations sold like hot cakes, a range of stalls also sold raffle tickets and other items, to add to the fundraising total.

Georgia said she was thrilled to beat her £500 target, and raise so much money in memory of her granddad.

“The day of my coffee morning I was really worried things weren’t going to turn out right, but as the morning flew by and more and more people started to come and we started to make more and more money,” she said.

“I couldn't have done it without my best friend ever Carla Thompson though, she's amazing.”

“Also I'd like to thank everyone who came to my coffee morning and everyone who donated money to the charity, and special thanks to my two nans and grampy, my two sisters my mum, dad and step mum for helping me prepare.”
