Negotiations are continuing to try to finally secure the sale of the Murco Milford Haven Refinery and safeguard more than 400 important local jobs.

The October 31 deadline for the deal to sell the refinery to The Klesch Group came and went without being signed, leaving staff and their families frustrated.

The Western Telegraph understands that the deadline for a deal has now been extended to Thursday.

All had appeared to be progressing smoothly but a series of complications saw negotiations stall at a critical time.

As a result, refinery staff were emailed on Friday evening to say the sale would not be going ahead as planned.

The Western Telegraph understands that hours of talks continued on Sunday and into today (Monday) to attempt to find a breakthrough.

A Murco spokesman told the Western Telegraph today: “We are doing everything we can to get a deal done.”

Preseli Pembrokeshire MP Stephen Crabb added: “I know the last few days have been deeply frustrating and concerning for all the staff and their families.

“Work has been going on all weekend to keep the sale moving forward.”
