A TREE surgeon from Neyland is said to be recovering well after being involved in a horrific chainsaw incident.

Mark Hamer was carrying out work at the Salterns industrial Estate in Tenby on Friday morning (November 28) when he suffered serious facial injuries.

An emergency ambulance and Helimed was called to the scene and the 45 year-old was airlifted to Morriston Hospital.

A spokesman from the Welsh Ambulance Service said: “I can confirm Wales Air Ambulance landed on scene at 9.26am. The crew airlifted an adult male with serious injuries to Morriston Hospital. They left the scene at 10.04am and arrived at hospital 10.23am.”

Dyfed-Powys Police were also in attendance and they are now working with the Health and Safety Executive to establish what happened.

A HSE spokesman said: “The Health and Safety Executive are investigating this incident. We’re unable to comment further while inquiries are continuing.”

Mr Hamer was working for Birch Utilities at the time and the company said it did not wish to comment on the incident while investigations are still ongoing.

Mr Hamer’s wife Tracy rushed to his bedside after hearing what happened.

It is understood she was on her way to a hen weekend at the time.

Mrs Hamer posted on Facebook over the weekend saying: “Myself and Mark would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and support over the last few days. I'm delighted to say that Mark is doing really well and is on the mend and hopes to be home soon".

Dozens of other comments have been left on Facebook for the couple from well wishers.

Outside of work, Mr Hamer is closely involved with Neyland RFC, having played for and coached the club over many years.

The club's committee member Rodney Chamberlain said: “The whole club would like to wish him a full and speedy recovery and we all hope to see Mark back soon.

“Our thoughts are also with the family who have been through a very traumatic experience.

"I spoke to Mark’s brother yesterday and he said he’s doing really well.”

Mr Chamberlain added: “Mark is a very lucky boy.”
