A TEN-year-old girl from Hakin has raised £300 in memory of her great aunt.

On Saturday, April 18, Tia Ferris swam 2.5km at Haverfordwest Leisure Centre, to raise money in memory of Stephanie Bowles, who died of cancer three years ago, aged just 44.

Despite only having conquered her 400 metre badge by last October, when she decided to take part in the swimathon, Tia's dedication saw her progress quickly onto 800m, 1000m, 1mile and 2km badges.

Her friends and family were so impressed, she had soon raise several hundred pounds for her charity of choice, Marie Cure Cancer, with colleagues at Sinclair Garages Neyland - where Tia's grandmother Susanne works - also chipping in.

Susanne said: “This is a charity that is very close to our hearts.

“We are so very proud of Tia in achieving this distance and she is an inspiration to us all that anything can be achieved.”

Tia said afterwards: “'Maybe I will now trying swimming the Thames or the channel like David Walliams”.

She is now hoping to do the BT Swimathon next year, and is aiming for the 5km.
