MORE than £8,000 has been raised for local charities and good causes, thanks to the efforts of Milford Haven Rotary Club.

A race night at the Pill Social Club, organised by Rotarian Monty Belton and attended by 120 people, raised a staggering £5,500, with funds going to the HOPE MS Centre, in Neyland, Pembrokeshire Action To Combat Hardship (PATCH), Friends of Pembrokeshire Crossroads, Parkinsons Pembrokeshire branch, Milford Haven Gym Club, and the Hakin School Shakespeare Group.

Thanks go to all guests, main sponsors Valero, and all the individuals and local firms who also contributed, including Dave Bowen Accountant, Morillos Coffee, Quentin Motors, Howden Joinery, Davies Building Supplies, Riverlea, Fred Rees Garages, Anthony Rees Livestock, Dai Rees Fencing, Jolly Sailor, Dale Sailing, Puffin Produce and many more.

A second event, the annual Milford Haven Rotary Charitable Golf Day held in May at Milford Haven Golf Club, raised a record £2,800.

Twenty teams entered the competition with prizes awarded to winning team, nearest the pin, best ladies score and best gents score.

The day was sponsored jointly by FRIO, Austwel Construction, TBS Skips, Links Taxis, JSI Timber Frame and Gamallt Concrete, along with 30 course sponsors, made up mainly of local businesses.

Drinks were supplied by the Rotary Club on the 7th Green and players were thanked for their generous donations for the drinks.

To conclude the day, presentations were made to the winners and a prize draw raffle held with a wide selection of prizes including an iPod donated by South Hook LNG.

Rotary Club of Milford Haven would like to thank all sponsors for their contributions and to all those persons including Rotarians who helped make the two events as successful as they were.
