THE streets of Neyland will once again host the town's hugely popular community carnival today (July 11).

Following a seven year absence, the carnival returned in 2014 in its full glory.

Now fully re-established on the summer calendar, residents and tourists alike will join in another spectacle of music, lights, costumes and dancing.

Things are looking good with the bands booked, beer chilled, and plenty off fun to be had on the carnival field, with slides, gladiators, rodeo bull, gravity wires, bouncy castles plus a whole lot more.

The carnival kicks off at the Rose and Willow at 12.30pm - be there in good time to set up if you are taking part.

It will be led around Neyland following the same route as last year: down Kensington Road, past the cenotaph to the prom, along the prom, up the high street, right into John Street, and past the primary school onto the field.

With a Calypso band leading the parade, a few ideas for costume theme include pirates, salsa and Mardi Gras!

Categories in the carnival competitions include best float, best street (walking), best pub, best group (10 or more) and best child group (10 or more), plus prizes for children's categories - 0 to 5 years, six to 10 years and 11-15 years.

You can only be in it to win it - all groups must register, registration forms are available from the Athletic club.

Other activities include children's sumo wrestling, lucky dips, hook a duck, plus pig roast, burgers, hot dogs, ice cream, fair rides, etc and Vibe Dance Group will be performing.

The Pig Street Trotters jazz band will be providing musical entertainment, plus Milford fire station will be sending a fire engine over.

And if that's not enough, Neyland Athletic Club have challenged local businesses and clubs/pubs to form a team to take them on in the seven man/woman tug of war competition - registration through Brian and Julie at the club.

Malcolm Hawkins, chairman of Neyland Carnival 2015, which is being organised by The Old Warrior Lodge RAOB, is inviting people to enjoy the carnival spirit.

He has thanked everyone for their support, including the carnival's sponsors: Neyland Town Council, Enviroventure, Port Engineering, Austwll, Milford Haven Port Authority and main sponsor Dragon LNG Waterston.
