LESS than a year after its launch, Milford Haven street market has been 'put on pause' to enable organisers to assess its sustainability.

Thanks to support from Milford Town Council and Pembrokeshire County Council, the town's Business Circle was able to purchase stalls and run the weekly market on a voluntary basis.

But increasing pressure on the volunteers have raised questions over its future.

Local county councillor and Business Circle member Guy Woodham said: "The responsibility for the market fell on the shoulders of two individuals, Byron Jenkins from Cariad Crafts and Keith Parr from Scales and Tails.

"Without their dedication and hard work over the last 12 months the market would have not been able to continue until now.

"However, going forward it has proved impossible for two people who run their own businesses to also commit every Saturday and other time during the week to keep the market going long-term.

"Hopefully a solution can be found quickly but it really needs the support of more people to make it work."

Mr Jenkins, who is also Chairman of the Business Circle said: "We would like to thank all the market traders and individuals who have supported the market.

"We do really hope that this will be a short-term closure and that the Market will be back bigger and better than before.

"However, to do this we really need more volunteers to help with setting up and taking down the market stalls each Saturday and generally get involved with supporting it."

Anyone who is interested in volunteering or becoming involved with taking the Market forward should contact Guy Woodham on 07411 287533.

A meeting of Milford’s Town Team will take place this week, to discuss the market's future.
