MINI bikes and Minions, jelly fish, pirates and princesses brought colour to St Ishmaels on Saturday, as part of the village’s spectacular carnival parade.

Around 500 people came out to watch the floats and fancy dress entries as they processed towards the carnival field.

Organiser Adrian Griffiths said the hard work of volunteers, helped by great weather, made this year's carnival the best yet.

"It's had the thumbs up from everyone," he said.

"It went fantastically well, the weather was excellent and the whole atmosphere was tremendous."

Asked why he thought Tish's carnival packed in the crowds, he said: "The community spirit on the day on the day is fantastic, and it brings everyone together – it’s a real boost for local businesses too.

"I would like to thank everyone who put so much effort into their floats and costumes, all the volunteers on the day, and all the sponsors - both individuals and businesses - who donated prizes for the raffle.

"Without them it wouldn't happen."

As well as a host of creative entries to the parade, the day also saw an impressive double performance from Will Scott and his band Loose Change, and Dyfed-Powys Police Neighbourhood Policing Team also brought a squad car, bike, and the force's helicopter, to the field.

The carnival committee runs a variety of fundraising events throughout the year to pay for the annual event, and all profits will go towards next year's carnival.

The winners were: walkers individual - 1st The Mummy, 2nd The Godfather, 3rd Barbie; walkers group - 1st Tish Rockers, 2nd Tish TT Racers, 3rd Catch of the Day; floats - 1st Inspector Drake and the black widow, 2nd Fisherman's Friends, 3rd Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Scarecrow competition winner: Mr Gerlach.
