RESIDENTS and business owners in Milford Haven have raised concerns about fly tipping, after an armchair, bookcase, door and other rubbish were dumped in the town centre almost four weeks ago.

More than ten black bags, and several items of furniture, were dumped outside 86, Charles Street around a month ago.

But despite complaints to the county council from local businesses, the person who dumped the rubbish has failed to clear it up.

Lynne Turner, whose shop is two doors up, said many of her customers had expressed concern about the rubbish being dumped on the pavement.

As a former representative of local business, Mrs Turner said she was worried that other people were already adding to the pile.

A spokesman for Pembrokeshire County Council said: “It is the owner’s responsibility to remove the waste and we have made contact with him and have instructed him to remove it as soon as possible.

“He is aware of his responsibilities.

“If the waste is not removed as a matter of urgency we will collect it and deal with it as potential fly-tipping.”

The spokesman added that the authority’s fortnightly collection service for household black bag waste and glass collections was not intended for large scale waste and household clearances.
