THE winners of the Port of Milford Haven’s annual Scholarship Scheme have been able to experience first-hand the diverse range of activities on offer at the UK's top energy port, as part of a four-week work placement.

Alice Simon from Pembroke, who is studying Land Economy in Cambridge, Danielle Rowe from Pembroke Dock, who is on an Aeronautics and Astronautics course in Southampton, Lara Sarrionandia-Thomas from Tenby, who is studying Biological Sciences at the University of Oxford, and Kyle Griffiths of Trefin, who is undertaking a degree in Motorsport Engineering and Design in Swansea, impressed the judging panel with their academic and personal achievements, which resulted in them being awarded a £1,500 bursary, plus valuable work experience.

The students were assigned to the engineering and environmental teams and given projects that linked to their university courses and personal interests.

In addition to the project work, they participated in on-water activities in one of the Port’s pilot boats and went on board the water ranger’s vessel, as well as learning about Milford Fish Docks, Milford Marina, Pembroke Port and welcoming cruise passengers to Milford Haven.

The placement culminated in the students presenting their findings to the senior management team who praised their excellent standard of work.

Chief Executive Alec Don said: “It’s been a pleasure having the four students on board this summer.

"They were all extremely enthusiastic, throwing themselves into working life and making worthwhile contributions to some challenging live projects.

"I wish them well for the future.”

The Port of Milford Haven’s 2015-16 Scholarship Scheme is due to be launched on September 14.
