NEYLAND’S Eleri Buck says thoughts of her mother will be at the forefront of her mind as she runs in her memory at the Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon.

At the age of just 13, Eleri’s world was turned upside down when her mother Nina passed away unexpectedly on January 11 2008 at the age of 41.

The cause was Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) and after taking some time to get over what had happened, now aged 21 Eleri is keen to raise money for the charity CRY – Cardiac Risk in The Young.

Last year, with the help of her best friend Laura. she organised the Pembrokeshire Talent Charity Showcase at the Torch Theatre where she raised more than £1,400.

But not content to stop there, Eleri will join forces with her cousin Evie Snook to raise even more money on October 4 as they take part in the Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon, Wales’ largest mass participation event.

“Having this devastating major event in my life happen made me want to raise money for a SADS-related charity as I wanted to prevent this heartbreaking situation happening to other families and also to make others aware of this situation as before this happened to my Mum I never new things like this could happen to a fit, young, loving and healthy person," said Eleri.

“Being so sudden made it extremely difficult to come to terms with but now being older I decided last year I wanted to be able to give something back to my lovely caring Mum and start raising money for a charity called 'CRY' Cardiac Risk In The Young each year to either take part or carry out an event to raise money!

“Me and Evie have always been involved with sports and my mum always supported me in everything I did with sport when I was younger and was my biggest fan, so we thought this event would be perfect and carried meaning behind it!”

Lloyds Bank is in its sixth year as proud title sponsor of the event in Wales, with the Cardiff Half Marathon and other community programmes helping bring to life the bank’s continuing commitment to the ‘Helping Britain Prosper Plan’.

More than 19,000 people regularly take part in the 10K and half marathon road races in Cardiff with one of Lloyds Bank’s aim to help encourage more people in sport.
