QUESTIONS about the sale of land at Blackbridge to Cypriot energy firm Egnedol will be put to the leader of the county council today (Thursday).

Cllr Viv Stoddart, local member for Hubberston, will ask council leader Jamie Adams three questions about the development, at a meeting of full council.

She will ask whether the council will be grant-funding or loaning money to Egnedol to support the project, what price the land was sold for, and whether the authority is yet to receive the money.

She will also ask the offer to Cabinet in November of a presentation from the ‘preferred bidder’ on their proposals did not take place before the decision was made.

A seminar for councillors, featuring a presentation by Egnedol about their plans for the former mine depot site, has now been scheduled for this Friday.

But Cllr Stoddart feels all councillors should have had the opportunity to find out about the firm’s plans in detail ‘months ago’.

“Back bench members have had no involvement in the decision to sell Blackbridge,” she said.

“The first back bench members knew that that the waterfront site had been sold was when we read it in the media last month; just days after I had asked a question in a Local Development Plan seminar, to be told that the future of the former mine depot was a "work in progress, and there was a preferred bidder.

“Nearly a year ago the successful bidder, Egnedol had told Cabinet members there was an invitation on the table for them to give a presentation on the scheme to members.

“Almost 12 months on, the company will explain their proposals in a seminar for members on Friday, a day after my question in council raises the issue.”

Cllr Stoddart said she felt that the Friday’s seminar should be open to the public, “So the people of Pembrokeshire can be fully informed about the future of this key site on the Haven Waterway”.
