THE mayor of Milford Haven says he wants to get the whole town singing from the same hymn sheet at this year's Remembrance Service.

The annual service, which will take place on Hamilton Terrace on Sunday, November 8, will see the town’s Sea Cadets, town band and local councillors make their way down Hamilton Terrace, meeting at the war memorial for 11am.

They will be joined by the people of the town for prayer, reflection and song, honouring all who have suffered or died in war.

But Mayor Cllr Stephen Joseph is keen to get locals singing louder and prouder for the memorial event.

"I remember being so proud last year of how many people came out from Milford Haven to support the service, but the hymns could have been far better," said Cllr Joseph.

"Many people don't go to church anymore, so they don't know the words.

"The remembrance service is one of the most important events of the year, and wouldn't it be great to get everyone singing together?"

Joining those gathered to pay their respects this year will be new community choir the Nantucket Wailers, who meet every Wednesday at 6pm in the church hall in Nantucket Avenue

And Cllr Joseph is inviting anyone who would like to practice ahead of the service to come along to the next Wednesday's session.

"The more people we can get the better," he said, adding that there was no commitment to join the choir afterwards.

A service will also take place in Neyland at 2.15pm, and this Sunday (November 1), a remembrance of the Cross service will take place at the Memorial Gardens in Milford Haven at 12pm, officiated by Father Harri.
