A DAUGHTER and her mother-in-law have overcome physical and emotional obstacles to raise almost £800 for cancer charity Tenovus.

Thirty-five-year-old Dawn Davies, from Milford Haven, abseiled Pembroke Castle keep recently to raise money for the charity, which helped her dad when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2007.

Dawn scaled the 75ft keep despite having physical disabilities, and was joined by her mother-in-law, Denise, 59, who has a fear of heights.

She was inspired by the experience of her father, Eric Mathias, who was helped by staff from the Tenovus Cancer Care ManVan.

The charity was able to offer support and advice to help Mr Mathias through his diagnosis, which Dawn said has been hard for him and his family.

"There have been plenty of ups and downs on this journey but life was made easier for us all by having support provided by the ManVan," she said.

"We’re so grateful to all those people who donated so we can help Tenovus Cancer Care keep giving help to people like my brave dad who need it."

Together, the pair raised £784 for the charity, and Nichola Couceiro, regional community fundraising manager, said she was proud and grateful to these fantastic fundraisers.

"We want to thank Dawn and Denise for their amazing fundraising efforts and we really appreciate their support," she said.

"Tenovus Cancer Care brings treatment, emotional support and practical advice to where it matters most; the heart of the community.

"Without brave people like these guys helping us, we wouldn’t be where we are today.

"We’re very proud of them and again, a massive thank you from all of us."

The ManVan is a 38ft converted motorhome supported by Prostate Cancer UK and Movember, travelling across Wales supporting men living with, and affected by, prostate and testicular cancer.
