A CRESCENDO of colour capped off Milford Haven’s annual fireworks display on Thursday (November 5), much to the delight of the almost 5000-strong crowd.

In the first time in its new location on the marina, the event carried on the ‘music’ theme from this year’s carnival, with performances from Ragsy, Lucy Jones, Steve Bartram, Milford Haven Town Band and Seren Jade.

Funfair rides and hot food were on offer for the crowds, and several shops and cafes along the marina also stayed open later to make the most of the extra trade.

Karen Cole, manager of the Spinnaker Café, said it was fantastic night, and a brilliant boost for local businesses.

“There was a great turn-out and everyone was so happy,” she said.

“The marina looked lovely with all the lights on, and although the weather was a bit grotty early on it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits.”

Karen said she hoped the event would return to the marina next year, adding that having one big, central display had seemed to cut down on people letting off fireworks in their gardens, which was good news for dog owners.

Martin Wilcox, chairman of Milford Haven Round Table, which organises the event, said: “It was fantastic to see people from far and wide travel to our town to witness a fantastic live concert and firework display with a great family orientated atmosphere.

“We would also like to thank our sponsors and the people of the town for coming out in their droves to support the event!”

The search is now on for new volunteers to join the Round Table group, to ensure it can continue to put its calendar of community event, which include the summer carnival, Santa toy run, and Easter Bunny Bounce.
