A PROJECT that helps build a relationship between young people and their communities has been given a £1,000 boost from Milford Haven Town Council.

Milford Youth Matters has been awarded the money from the council’s reserves, to help support its ‘Friday Night Project’.

Presenting a cheque to project workers Sian Jones and Kimberley Davies on Tuesday, Mayor of Milford Haven Cllr Stephen Joseph said the youth club, and the Friday Night Project, were a great resource for local youngsters.

“It’s a super thing for the town, and it makes sense to support it,” he said.

At present, the youth club works with 14 to 18-year-olds, and age group at risk of being led astray or caught up in anti-social behaviour, said Sian.

The aim is to improve communication between young people and the communities they live in, and defuse tensions which can sometimes arise from large groups of youngsters congregating, especially at night.

“A lot of the work we do is about building relationships with young people,” added Sian.

The project is currently working with young people in the Hakin area, educating them as to the hard work local volunteers put in to manage the local play park, and get them involved in helping to maintain it for local families.

“We would love to see them get involved, and help them take ownership of the park,” said Sian.

The money from the town council will help pay for sessional staff to support the project.
