THE group behind some of Milford Haven’s biggest and best annual events is urgently looking for new members.

Milford Haven Round Table is for men aged between 18 and 45, who want to give a little back to their community, as well as being a great way to make new friends.

Despite dwindling numbers, in the last year the group has still managed to organise a host of fantastic events, including the summer carnival, Easter fun day, fireworks night and Santa’s Sleigh tour of the town.

But as members get a bit older, new blood is needed to keep the group – and the events it fundraises for – going.

Still not convinced? Current chairman Martin Wilcox explains what he gets from being a member.

“Ask 10 members of Round Table why they joined and you will get 10 different answers,” he said.

“It is initially the social side, getting out of the house to do something different once a fortnight.

“Then the real attraction of Round Table goes beyond this, because once you are involved, there is a mixture of respect, banter and belonging which does not exist elsewhere.”

“You might think all this takes up a great deal of your time, but it doesn’t” he added.

“We meet twice a month, and you can attend what activities you are interested in.

“We also have an active social calendar which Includes meals and trips - usually washed down with a beer.”

Martin added: "One of the strengths of Round Table is that we are constantly evolving.

“Due to the age cap of 45 we are always looking for new members to join and add to the team.

“It's a great way to meet new people, experience new things, push yourself and put something back into your community.

“It doesn't take up a great deal of your time and the rewards are fantastic!

“We have had another fantastic year, and the events we organise have really put our town on the map.

Vice chairman Mark Johnson takes over the reins from Martin in April and had this to say: “’Fun and fellowship’ is the mantra on which many of our activities are based.

“Fellowship in the form of organising activities for the town and working together, and fun in what we organise socially for ourselves.

“Since joining Milford Haven Round Table I have become friends with a lot of people that I would not have otherwise met, and the feeling of accomplishment when an event for the town has been run successfully, with all the positive messages that we receive, is incredible!

“We are always on the lookout for new members to not only help out with events but also to meet up for a beer and a laugh!”
