A cheque for £3,000, initially raised to support families during the first and second Gulf Wars was handed over to Haverfordwest's VC Gallery on Monday, the 25th anniversary of the official ceasefire of the first Gulf War.

The money was raised by the people of Pembrokeshire through the county's Gulf Support Fund.

The fund was used to assist local families who had members fighting in the conflict. The committee also supported members of the military by sending goods out to them on the front line.

The fund had £3,000 remaining in it and its committee decided the best thing that could be done with the money was to use it to help the VC Gallery.

"We felt that because the conflict is now over, as far as our troops are concerned, the money left over should go to a good cause," said the fund's chairman, Roy Thomas.

"We spoke to Barry as the VC Gallery is so involved with local veterans."

Mr John added that the money would help the gallery fulfil their aims and objectives over the coming years.

"We work with lots of veterans of all ages who served in conflicts all over the world and we support and help their families too," he said.

"Haverfordwest has got a valuable hub in terms of what we do. This funding will help us work towards the third year of our project and will help us continue our work supporting veterans in Pembrokeshire."

Members of the Gulf support fund, Brian Griffiths, Barbra Turley, Jean White and Amelia accompanied Mr Thomas to hand over the cheque.

Veterans Mark Rosser, Craig Thomas, Alan Drake, Josh Smith and Kristian George were present to represent the gallery.
