A PEMBROKESHIRE schoolgirl has touched the hearts of charity bosses after she knitted a blanket to keep an older person warm.

Kind-hearted Ella Roch, 9, from Milford Haven, spent more than a month making the blanket with her Nan, Karen Rees.

She gave the blanket to Age Cymru and asked the charity to pass it on to an older person who needed to keep warm.

Age Cymru presented Ella’s blanket to a widow in her 90s who is a client of its HandyVan home security and safety service.

“My mum works for Age Cymru Pembrokeshire so I thought I’d knit this blanket to help someone to keep warm," said Ella.

“I had been knitting the blanket for over a month and had a little help from my Nan.

“I hope the person who got my blanket likes it.”

Ella’s mum Vickie Pepperell is a home support service assistant with Age Cymru Pembrokeshire.

Said Vickie: “I am ever so proud of the little lady Ella is becoming - she has always been such a kind and thoughtful girl.

“She put a lot of effort into making the blanket and lots of thought went into which colour went where, she was so pleased with herself having finished it.

“Ella was so happy skipping to the post office and even happier having received a thank you letter from Age Cymru and hearing that it had been given to someone to keep them warm.

“She really is a beautiful girl, inside and out!”

Staff at Age Cymru - the older people’s charity for Wales, were overjoyed when Ella’s blanket arrived in the post.

“We were all touched and inspired by the kindness of Ella’s gesture and her wish to help an older person keep warm," said the charity’s chief executive, Ian Thomas.

“The fact that Ella spent over a month knitting this blanket – and got her Nan involved as well, goes to show what a thoughtful and tenacious person she is.”

Age Cymru works nationally and locally through its network of independent local Age Cymru partners.
