THE Haven waterway will sail onto our TV screens this Sunday, as part of BBC Countryfile.

Presenter John Craven was filming in the county during Seafair Haven Festival, which dropped anchor on June 11, and saw 46 small traditional boats and 4 tall ships travelling to Pembrokeshire from as far afield as the Netherlands.

Sponsored by Milford Haven Port Authority, Valero and Neyland Yacht Haven, during the week crews took part in escorted sails to Landshipping, Pembroke castle, Carew Mill and Cresswell Quay culminating in the parade of sail held on Saturday, June 18.

Enjoying part of the festivities was TV presenter John Craven, who spoke to David James of the West Wales Maritime Heritage Society about the rich maritime history of Milford Haven and Pembroke Docks, before meeting two volunteers from the society who are renovating a Pembrokeshire One vessel.

Later on, Mr Craven joined the flotilla of sail and oar boats to Cresswell Quay before heading back to Lawrenny to join in with some sea shanties.

The event also offered opportunities for young people to sail on tall ships with 18 trainees sailing from Falmouth to Milford on the TS Pelican and four children from the Fountain Hill Home Education project sailing on the Swansea Museum tall ship Olga from Swansea to Milford.

During the week 20 people also took part in an engagement workshop with the VC Gallery, usually based in Haverfordwest, on board the TS Pelican.

The event has been growing in popularity each year becoming a permanent fixture in the classic boating calendar. The volunteer organisers are looking to build on the success of this year and are already starting the planning for 2018.

BBC Countryfile airs this Sunday at 6.30pm on BBC1.
