A PIRATE party hooked in the crowds in Dale on Saturday, to raise money for a new village play area.

Junior Jolly Rogers in fancy dress enjoyed an afternoon of fun in the sun, with a plank-tastic £1,500 raised in total.

Nia Marshall, chairman of Dale Play Area Association, said: "Our third Pirate Day was a huge success.

"We were so impressed with the effort everyone made to dress up and enter into the spirit of the day - adults and children alike.

"We had pirate boat making, crabbing, treasure hunting, a gypsy wheel of fortune, bouncy castle, face painting and many other stalls.

"We were overwhelmed with the donations received for the raffle.

"A huge thank you to all our sponsors - South Hook LNG, Heatherton, Manor House Wildlife Park, Pembrokeshire Islands, Vincent Davies, Vaughans, Phoenix Bowl, Pembrokeshire Building & Plumbing Supplies, Port of Milford Haven, Torch Theatre, Snapdragon, Tesco, Awesome Fishing, Beauty by Lisa, Point Farm Campsite, Golwyg-y-Maes, Be-Gemmed, Nic Ford Photography, Dale Fort Field Centre and above all The Griffin Inn and The Boathouse Cafe.

"A lot of hard work went into organising the event and I can¹t thank all our supporters enough.

"It really is overwhelming how much support we had for this year.

"We are already planning next year's event when we hope to open the first stage of the play area.

"We want Dale Pirate Day to become a fixture in the events calendar ensuring we raise the funds we require on an annual basis for insurance and maintenance."
