BLOSSOMING creativity has once again been celebrated in a town centre exhibition in Milford Haven.

GCSE and A Level students from Milford Haven School launched their fourth annual art exhibition last week.

Featuring a variety of art and photography, including paintings, drawings and 3D work, Mayor Cllr William Elliott said he had never seen the town hall looking so colourful.

Among the students showing off their work were Sarah Baglee and Molly Wilkinson.

Both were inspired by illustrator Liz Clements, whose instantly recognisable portraits focus on curves and soft lines.

Molly, 16, said the starting point for her pieces, which include a stylised self-portrait, was the word 'majestic'.

She also chose to explore the idea of femininity, and what it means in the 21st Century.

As part of her research, she enjoyed finding out more about teenage education activist Malala Yousafzai, and the Suffragettes.

She said the school's art department had been instrumental in helping her explore her creativity.

"They have helped a lot, it's great that the school is proud to celebrate the arts," she said.

"The teachers encourage you you and push you to be the best you can be.

"I've learnt thing I never would have known, they know so much."

Seventeen-year-old Sarah says she has enjoyed trying out new techniques throughout the course.

She hopes to study art in Carmarthen after sixth form, and is interested in creating comics.

Cllr David Lloyd, Cabinet Member for Education, said: "The skill, confidence and wit of these works speaks volumes about the strength of these young artists and those who nurtured them.

"I'm going to encourage students from St Davids to come see this, and maybe we can follow this great example."

The exhibition, which is sponsored by Tesco, continued until Thursday, October 13.
