MILFORD Haven Town Band recently held their annual awards presentation evening in the Nelson Hotel.

Chairman Alex Machin started the presentations by thanking all for their hard work and commitment over the last year.

She said that she still felt like a relative newcomer to the band, despite being there for nearly five years, but said that on joining the band, she quickly felt like part of the family.

Alex also thanked the committee for all of their work in ensuring that the band continues to do well and be well represented.

Former secretary Erica Adams was also thanked for her work.

Alex then presented the Chairman’s Award – given to individuals who go ‘above and beyond the call of duty’ with their commitment to the band.

This year there were two recipients, Pam Emery and Jane Evans, for all of their dedication and ‘behind the scenes work’ in ensuring that the Junior Band is ready at practices and engagements.

Martyn Llewellyn presented awards to Kate Norrie (player of the year), Rhys Evans (young achiever shield), and the percussion section (best section).

Junior band leader Bron Parratt then gave out awards to Dylan Sanders-Swales (Melvyn Stephen Parratt memorial award for player of the year), Ross Owen (Gladys Davies award for the most outstanding player), and certificates to all junior members.

Honorary patron Adrian Beckett MBE made a short speech about being so proud of his beginnings in the town band, and hinted at tentative plans for a trip to London next spring.

The next band concert is a Remembrance Concert on Friday, November 11, at St Katharine’s Church, Milford Haven.
