South Wales Women’s Hockey League Division 2:
Risca 0
Milford Haven 6

FOUR goals from Rachel Coe and two from Elyse Morgan saw Milford return to winning ways at Risca on Saturday.

Despite only having a bare 11, the visitors created a series of early chances, and after Coe was denied by a good save, she made no mistake second time round with a clever reverse stick finish.

The second goal came soon after a good run by Meg Evans created the pace for Charlotte Davies to find Elyse Morgan in the D, who finished well.

Risca then started to create chances, but the Milford defence battled well under pressure and some excellent saves by keeper Yasmin Riggs, playing only her second game in goal, kept it at 0-2.

And just before half time Milford struck a blow as a counter attack was rounded off with a skilful finish by Coe, after she went through one on one.

The second half followed a similar vein to the first with Milford controlling possession and moving the ball well.

It didn’t take long for the visitors to be on the board again after a strong run down the flank by Evans and a neat pull back for Morgan, who found the backboard for a fifth goal in two games.

To their credit, the hosts kept trying to press but solid defensive work by Vicki John, Kate Farr, Jane Jordan and keeper Riggs ensured Milford kept a clean sheet.

Steph Layton and Jess Barrett linked well down the left flank all day, and it was the former who forced a mistake by the Risca defence to win a short corner - from which the ball was played to Emma Summons at the top of the D who slipped the ball to Coe to complete her hat trick.

The final goal was the best of the game, as some superb interplay saw the ball moved from left to right, before Coe found space in the D to finish well.

The result was a confidence boost for the squad after defeat the previous week, and this Saturday, Milford take on Gwernyfed at home, with push back at 2pm.

Milford Haven squad: Emma Summons (captain), Yasmin Riggs, Vicki John, Kate Farr, Jane Jordan, Meg Evans, Charlotte Davies, Rachel Coe, Elyse Morgan, Steph Layton, Jess Barrett.
