A YOUTH group in Milford Haven that serves up faith and fun alongside a slice of pizza, has won its first award.

The Prayer and Pizza group at St Katharine and St Peter’s Church in Milford Haven has been named Radio Pembrokeshire young community group of the year.

The group is open to children and young people aged between 10 and18, and combines games, craft, drama and fun with learning and faith, all over a plate of pizza.

In addition, members go on regular trips and visits and have a camping trip each summer, all subsidised by the church

The group, which has been running for more than three years, was nominated by a parent of one of the young people.

In her nomination, the mum detailed how much the group has done for her daughter, and the impact it has on the local community.

Two young people from the group along with leaders, Fr Harri and Clare Williams, attended the recent awards ceremony at Folly Farm.

Run by Radio Pembrokeshire, the Young Achievers Awards are also now in their third year.

Speaking at the ceremony, one of the youngsters spoke of how he has benefitted from the group as it has helped him with problems and gives him a safe space to talk about faith as well as have fun.

Prayer and Pizza are now hosting their own awards ceremony for the rest of the group at the end of term and look forward to another award-winning year in 2017.

The group meets every Sunday afternoon for an hour and a half, and sessions are free.
