PLANS to reform secondary education in Haverfordwest could have a knock-on effect on where primary pupils from Neyland and Johnston go to secondary school.

Pembrokeshire County Council’s latest proposals include extending the catchment area of Milford Haven Secondary School to encompass Johnston and Neyland feeder schools.

Currently Neyland CP pupils go on to Sir Thomas Picton School (STP), and Johnston pupils go on to Tasker Milward.

If successful, the change could affect pupils going into Year 7 in September 2018.

This would coincide with the opening of a proposed new 11-19 years school in Haverfordwest.

The new school would use the current STP and Taskers sites, both of which would officially close on August 31, 2018.

Neyland Town Council is urging local parents to have their say on the plans by filling in a consultation response form.

To take part, visit the county council website, click Have Your Say, then ‘English Medium Secondary Education Provision in Haverfordwest’.

Section two of the form relates specifically to catchment area changes.

All replies must be received by Tuesday, February 28.

The latest consultation supersedes any previous consultations, so if you have commented before you will need to fill out this form if you want your response included.

A meeting will also be held at County Hall on Wednesday, February 1, from 6pm to 8pm, where parents can ask questions.
