YOUNG people aged between 10 and 17 are being encouraged to join the Sea Cadets, as part of the charity's month-long recruitment campaign.

The youth charity gives youngsters a chance to meet new people, learn new skills and gain qualifications, and take part in amazing adventures.

Sea Cadets offers a variety of activities, from dinghy sailing to catering, and members have the opportunity to experience offshore voyages and travel abroad to meet cadets from other countries.

More than 40 local children have registered their interest in joining, following an assembly for Year 7 pupils at Milford Haven School.

And for those who join, it won't just be new friends and new skills they come away with.

More than 90 per cent of members say Sea Cadets has given them higher self-esteem and offered “direction and guidance”.

None of this would be possible without the service's amazing network of 9,000 volunteers, and more are always needed.

Adult volunteers can get training in teaching cadets how to sail, powerboat, kayak or windsurf, or can help the charity by managing finances or fundraising for a local unit.

Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community, gain qualifications, boost your own CV and help young people to realise their full potential.
