South Wales Women’s Hockey League Division 2:
Milford Haven 1
Cardiff Met 3rds 3

IT was an emotional day for Milford Ladies hockey side as they lost at home to Cardiff Met.

Before the match, a minute’s silence was held for former junior member Megan Evans, with captain Emma Summons saying: “As a club we are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of one of our junior players and promising goal keeper Megan Evans last week.

“She was a lovely young lady who will be missed by everyone at the club. Our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time.”

Neither side really got going until midway through the half, as the visitors forced a short corner and despite a scrambled defence, converted the chance.

Milford regrouped though, and after several attacks a well worked move saw Danielle Pitcher-Schofield strike from close range.

The second half followed a similar vein, but again the visitors who took the lead as they reacted first to a rebound after a save by home keeper Yasmin Riggs.

Milford pressed for an equaliser, but to no avail as the visiting keeper made some great saves.

Cardiff and Met then capitalised late on with a swift counter attack to make it 3-1, a flattering score line after an even affair.

“It was a disappointing result, the girls battled well in a physical game but unfortunately it wasn’t enough,” added Summons.

Meg Jones won the home side's Player of the Match award. This Saturday, Milford travel to play Gwent.

Both Milford’s Under 13s and 15s played in the junior Pembrokeshire tournament on Sunday. There was a good display of hockey, team work, determination and effort from both teams with some good results. The 13s won four games and drew two. The 15s had a win, draw and loss. It’s encouraging to see them get involved and the progress they are making," said Summons.
