CLEDDAU Reach school's film club is celebrating after being nominated for a prestigious award.

The Llangwm primary school is one of just three UK schools nominated for the UK Into Film 'Club of the Year' award (under-12s).

The junior film makers will travel to London on March 14 for the award ceremony, hosted by radio and TV presenter Edith Bowman.

This is not the first time the school film club has been recognised for its excellence in film.

In 2014 they were overall winners in the Into Film Dylan Thomas Centenary celebrations, writing and producing their first documentary ‘A Sense of Place: finding the poetry in our own community’.

Parent Lorraine Allman, who started the club three years ago, said: “It’s a wonderful achievement to be nominated.

It’s wonderful for the children’s enthusiasm and dedication to be recognised in this way. We have a regular membership of nearly 30 children, who watch a wide range of films from vintage comedy to modern animations, as well as trying their hand at film-making.”

Headteacher Nick Groves said: “We won’t know until the day of the ceremony whether we have won the award, but it is a tremendous achievement to be nominated.

"The film crew have already visited us so they will show a short film all about our club on the day.

"Film Club is hugely popular with the pupils and they are very excited about this.

"There is no doubt the children benefit enormously from participating, improving not just their literacy and IT skills, but also building confidence in speaking and creative expression.

"It has been a pleasure to work alongside Lorraine and being a part of the dynamic ways in which the Cleddau Reach Film Club has developed.”
