THE importance of having a working smoke alarm was demonstrated on Monday night (March 20), after a fire broke out in a bedroom.
At 7.38pm, fire crews from Milford Haven, Haverfordwest and Pembroke Dock were called to a fire at a house in James Street, Milford Haven.
The fire started in a first floor bedroom, but had spread to the attic space.
Firefighters extinguished the flames, and ventilated the property, leaving the scene at 9.15pm.
Incident Commander, Station Manager Craig Thomas, said: “I would like to thank the crews, who displayed the utmost professionalism whilst working in very hot conditions to stop the fire spreading further in the house and to adjoining properties."
He added: "Neighbours were alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm within the affected property.
"This demonstrates how effective a working smoke alarm can be to limit damage to properties and most importantly, save lives.”
