A mother-of-three was lucky to escape with minor injuries after flipping her car while three times the drink drive limit Haverfordwest magistrates heard.

Christina Jones, 35, of Meadow Way, Waterston, admitted driving while over the alcohol level on March 5, near Sentry Cross roundabout, when she attended on Tuesday (March 21).

The court heard that Jones was involved in a car crash at around 4pm and a breath test revealed she had 100 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit is 35.

Prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard Jones said: “It seems due to the fact she had consumed a considerable amount of alcohol she simple lost control of her car. She drove up the verge, up the hedge and the vehicle turned over, came back n to the road and ended up on its roof in the road.

“She was very lucky to only have minor injuries.”

He added that Jones told officers she had swerved to avoid something in the road that “may or may not have been there”.

“We have lots of cases of imaginary dogs in this court,” he said.

Probation officer Julie Norman said mum-of-three Jones had co-operated fully during interview.

The court heard Jones had been drinking at home the previous evening following an argument with an ex-partner.

Jones, suffering from post-natal depression, was extremely remorseful, having never been in trouble before, the court heard.

Mrs Norman said that Jones, who also suffered alcohol and relationship issues, was trying to get herself well.

Defence solicitor Mike Kelleher said Jones had “unfortunately to try and combat postnatal depression she had turned to taking alcohol”.

“What occurred has served as a huge wake up call,” he said, adding Jones was now accessing support and treatment.

Jones was banned from driving for 25 months and was placed on a nine month community order, with a 15 day rehabilitation requirement.

She was also fined £80, with £85 costs and an £85 surcharge.
