South Wales Women’s Hockey Division 2:
Penarth 3rds 0
Milford Haven 0

THEY didn’t come away with any goals - but Milford Haven did gain a point in the capital on Saturday with a hard fought draw in Penarth.

After a slow start the visitors settled well and started to move the ball confidently - putting the Penarth backline under pressure.

But the visitors missed several opportunities, and had a shot cleared off the line in a goal mouth scrambles and also hit the post.

Milford then seemed to lose momentum. which allowed the home side to put together some good phases of play - and made the visitors defend for the last 10 minutes of the half. But despite some heavy pressure, Milford got to half time at 0-0.

The second half was an evenly balanced affair, both sides created half chances but neither produced any real threat early on.

Midway through the half the home umpire awarded Penarth a goal, before reversing her decision as the strike from the short corner was outside the D.

Despite two dubious green cards for the Milford midfield duo of Charlotte Davies (adjudged her side’s Player of the Match) and Emma Summons, the game was played in good spirit and was a physical battle by both sides.

“I’m disappointed as we should have taken early chances, but will settle for a point in a tough game away from home,” said Summons afterwards.

Milford’s final game of the season is Gwernyfed away on Saturday, April 8.
