MILFORD Haven Junior Town Band celebrated its fifth birthday with a rousing concert at the Pill Social Centre on May 13.

They performed to a large crowd alongside the beginner band and special guests Sonja Groves and the Meads Infant School Choir and percussionist Philip Howells.

The band played a variety of pieces throughout the night including famous songs such as Beauty and the Beast, One Moment in Time, Grease, Rock Around the Clock and much more.

Their creativity was rewarded with a standing ovation.

"The concert was so much better than perfect and I was so proud of each and every player," said band leader Bron Parratt.

"The band sounded absolutely amazing and we had comments such as 'the hairs were standing on my arms' and 'I had goosebumps' from members of the audience, which was wonderful to hear.

"I would like to thank everyone, including the Milford Mercury, who has supported the junior band on this successful journey.

It's been amazing and I am so, so proud to be their musical director."

Bron also thanked outgoing mayor William Elliot and his consort Lloyd Jones for choosing the junior band as one of their chosen charities.

The band was recently presented with a cheque and a Mayoral Award.
