DYFED-POWYS Police is reminding people that animals are there for “pleasure not persecution”.
Sergeant Matthew Howells, Wildlife and Environmental Crime Sergeant, said there had been an increase in calls about children throwing stones at ducks and swans and adults encouraging dogs to swim after them.
Sergeant Howells said: “I noticed over the easter Holidays that we had received quite a few calls regarding ducks and swans in particular being persecuted by children and adults.”
He added: “I am therefore asking people to be mindful that not only are they committing offences, but the damage caused to the animals can cause death and result in animal rescue charities unnecessarily spending money on vets’ fees.
“Parents need to educate their children as to the implications of persecuting any animal.”
