SHE’S taught three generations of children to swim and battled to save Narberth pool from sinking on more than one occasion.

Now after nearly 40 years inspiring youngsters to take to the water, Jenny Price is officially retiring.

But Jenny, aged 67, isn’t planning on being far away from the pool, where she first became manager in 1987.

She will still be closely involved as a executive committee member of Swim Narberth - the community group which now runs the pool - and will be working to secure funding for the pool's lifeguard courses as well as the disability swimming sessions which are starting next month.

“Although I have retired from teaching children’s lessons, I’m certainly not saying goodbye to the pool,” said Jenny.

“I wouldn’t like to say how many children I’ve taught over the years, but it’s always been a lot of fun.

“We’ve had some wonderful times with overnight camps, fun sessions and even trips to Euro Disney.”

After Jenny’s retirement as pool manager in October 2013, she lent her support to the community fight to keep the facility afloat, and when SwimNarberth came into being, she was back at the poolside as its children’s swimming teacher.

Said SwimNarberth chairman Sue Rees: “Jenny has worked hard for many years to serve both the pool and the community.

“She always enters into the spirit of every occasion, be it fun days, carnivals, fundraising or a school gala, she is always right in the thick of it and having a great time.

“She is, and will be for a long time to come, an inspiration to us all on how to live as a valued member of the community.”
