A TEAM of motoring enthusiasts from Cardigan Secondary School is on the road to success.

The Aberteifi Tigers is an after school club where pupils meet to share their passion for building electric racing cars.

They recently competed at Goodwood National Racing Circuit, where they gained a place in the top 10 in two regional heats.

They now go on to race in the Greenpower final, which takes place in June 2014. The event will see teams competing from all over the UK, USA and Poland.

The Tigers have been invited to display their electric racing cars at the Wales Rally GB being held in Llandudno from November 14-17.

They were also asked to put on a display at Rhosygilwen last week for the First Minister Carwyn Jones, who was in the area unveiling a new eco house.

Ela Griffiths said: “We work on biodegradable cars and it’s about trying to see how much we can get out of the racing car. You get six batteries in the race and you have to try and get as much mileage as you can.

“We’ve been doing well. It’s about team work and pit stop times and how the drivers work with the communications. We had a little bit of trouble with the radios, but we’ve got a more efficient system in place now.”
