A NORTH Pembrokeshire chef will be putting his culinary skills to the ultimate test next week as he makes an appearance on BBC’s The Great British Menu.
Andrew Beaumont has been head chef at Hammet House in Llechryd for about two years, and comes from a Michelin Star and AA rosette background.
He did the majority of his training at Tyddyn Llan in Clwyd, and during his career has worked at many top restaurants including The Hambrough on the Isle of Wight and Lower Slaughter Manor in the Cotswolds.
“I loved every minute and learned so much. It put me in good stead for running my own kitchen,” said Andrew.
Andrew’s style is modern British fine dining, drawing upon the excellent range of local produce in Pembrokeshire, together with the finest ingredients from throughout Wales, the UK and abroad.
He said: “I’m enjoying my time at Hammet House, it’s given me the chance to play around with lots of ideas and show off my skills with the food I serve.”
The ninth series of The Great British Menu marks the 70th anniversary of D-Day. The chefs must create dishes that evoke the wartime spirit of the generation, as well as honour the bravery shown throughout the Second World War.
Many D-Day veterans will also take part as judges bringing their incredible experiences, personal memories and discerning taste buds to the judging.
Andrew will be representing Wales in the show, putting his dishes up against David Kelman and Mary Ann Gilchrist. The programme will be broadcast in Wales from Monday, May 26.
