AN eagerly-awaited new community centre for north Pembrokeshire has opened in Tegryn.

The £600,000 Canolfan Clydau will provide a focal point for local communities and visitors alike. It includes a main hall, modern kitchen, office space and conference facilities.

The project has received funding through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013, which is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. It was carried out by Pembrokeshire County Council.

Councillor David Pugh, Cabinet Member for Economy and Tourism, welcomed the new facility.

“There is no doubt that there is great excitement about the possibilities offered to the community by this new development, and I wish Canolfan Clydau every success,” he said.

The site was chosen in response to a study on the needs of the most isolated rural areas of the county.

Local councillor Rod Bowen said it was ‘truly a multi-purpose space that can be used for almost any community activity, private event or party’.

"This is a fantastic first class facility in the set in heart of Clydau - a wonderful Community centre for everyone to enjoy with facilities that are second to none,” he said.

“We are committed to providing a first class facility whilst also supporting business growth within the new centre.

“We will also offer space for people who wish to develop business ideas, an essential catalyst for the creation of new companies and job opportunities."

Clydau Community Centre will have a phased opening with the official opening event planned for late summer 2014.
