A HORSE riding group for the disabled is asking for the public’s support after being shortlisted for a community grants scheme.
Based at the Dyfed Riding Centre at Bridell, the North Pembrokeshire and Cardiganshire Riding for the Disabled Group started in the 1970s and is run by a team of dedicated volunteers.
Lessons are held every Tuesday morning during term time for riders with a range of conditions, including Down’s syndrome, cerebral palsy, delayed development, autism and various mobility issues.
The group is one of four shortlisted for the Lloyds Bank Community Fund 2014 in Cardigan and people are being invited to vote for the cause they would most like to support. The one that receives most votes will receive an award of £3,000, with the other groups receiving £2,000, £1,000 or £500 depending on the votes received.
The riding group's chairman Gini Gristwood said: “This award will make a huge difference to children and adults with disabilities in the North Pembrokeshire and Cardigan area, by enabling us to continue our successful riding lessons, artwork and competition entries. The group is run entirely by a team of dedicated volunteers, who raise all our operating funds each year as well as running weekly riding sessions, in all seasons, come rain or shine.”
You can vote online, in branch, using a mobile or on Twitter. All votes must be received by October 10.
