AN IMPORTANT part of Newport’s history is set to go on display at Ysgol Bro Ingli, following a joint initiative by local organisations.
An information board, explaining the old Norman castle site near the school, was presented to pupils during Wednesday’s assembly.
After a board was put at the site near the estuary path, Newport Town Council clerk Janet Weston suggested a copy was made for the school, and a framed item was produced with the help of funding from Planed.
Newport mayor Byron James said: “I’m very pleased. It’s a good thing for Newport and the school. It’s nice to see local people working together.”
Headteacher Ann James said the school was very grateful for the panel, which would be used as a starting point for studying the local area.
Elaine Jones, the National Park’s acting education and social inclusion manager, said: “The new panel gives the children, residents of Newport and visitors a glimpse into the area’s rich historical past.”
The project was jointly funded by the National Park Authority, Planed, Cadw, a European Agricultural fund, the Welsh Assembly and Newport Town Council.
