A PEMBROKE DOCK optician is celebrating 10 years in business next week (March 24 to 29).

Specsavers was originally opened on Dimond Street by co-founders Gary Owen, the store’s optometrist, and Rod Mason, who was the store’s dispensing optician at the time.

The store has grown significantly since then. When the opticians first opened its doors it had a single testing room and the workforce consisted of seven staff members including one optometrist, one part-time dispensing optician and five full-time optical assistants.

Today the Pembroke Dock store has thirteen members of staff and has now grown to house three test rooms.

Store director Gary Owen said: “We are very proud to be celebrating a decade in business and I am delighted to have been part of the journey since day one.

“It is a great achievement for the store and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their continued support and loyalty. Without their support we would not be able to celebrate such a huge milestone.

“We are looking forward to another ten years with excitement and enthusiasm. It has been a fantastic number of years here in Pembroke Dock with lots of staff and customers passing through the doors over that time.”

Birthday celebrations are being held in aid of the store’s charity of the year, Velindre, from next Monday (March 24) to Saturday (March 29). There will be special discounts and a raffle.

Mr Owen added: “The Specsavers store staff and I would like to invite all members of the Pembroke Dock community to call in store during their birthday week to help with the celebrations. There will be plenty going on and it will be a fun week for everyone involved.”
