LAST week’s Pembroke & Pembroke Dock LVA quiz league was sadly overshadowed by the sudden death of the popular captain of the First & Last quiz team.
First & Last captain and quiz league stalwart Bernie Timms, of Pembroke Dock, had set the questions for last week’s quiz
First & Last landlord Richard Maynard said: “He was a very, very friendly guy and a very knowledgeable man on all sorts of things – you could ask him any American state capital and he could tell you.
“He was very popular in the quiz league and he was chuffed the team were doing so well this season.”
A father-of-seven, Bernie stumbled on South Pembrokeshire by accident while on a family holiday. He had been en route to St Davids but ended-up in Angle after losing his way.
Bernie and his late wife, Meryl, retired to Pembroke Dock, where they ran a bed and breakfast on Water Street.
In his hay day, he took part in banger racing and was known to many as “Bernie the Bolt”.
Quiz coordinator David Gledhill said: “Bernie was originally from the Midlands and I’m sure all the people associated with the quiz league will join me in passing our thoughts and condolences to his family at this sad time.”
The week’s results were: Alma B 53, Oak 52; Cosh Brewery 73, Charlton B 51; Station B 62, St Govan’s Inn A 70; St Govan’s Inn B 61, Naval Club 72; Charlton A 38, Alma A 64; and Golf Club 79, Station A 60.
