STUDENTS from across the county attended the first-ever food and farming careers evening at the Bridge Innovation Centre, Pembroke Dock, last week.

More than 20 businesses and organisations - specialising in food technology, agronomy, veterinary services, food production, and much more – attended the event which showcased the opportunities for highly-skilled jobs.

There was advice on careers, apprenticeships and postgraduate opportunities. Students showed an interested in careers ranging from butchery to sheep farming, agricultural engineering and animal health.

Cabinet member for economy, tourism, communities and the voluntary sector Councillor David Pugh said: “The aim of this event was to highlight the career opportunities in high skilled opportunities within the food and farming sector.

“The food and farming sector is a big part of the Pembrokeshire economy. We need to support young people to take every opportunity to access the well paid jobs the sector has to offer.”

The event was organised by LANTRA, Pembrokeshire County Council, Careers Wales and colleagues from Capestone Organics and Pembrokeshire Machinery Ring.
