PEMBROKE Dock’s impending soapbox derby was the main item discussed at a Town Team regeneration meeting last Thursday (March 20).

There was a plea for volunteers and sponsorship to help run the event which will be held on bankholiday Monday, May 26, from 10am to 4pm.

Taking inspiration from the Red Bull soapbox derbys, the race will see 24 teams take two timed runs down Meyrick Street in the town centre.

Prizes will be awarded for the fastest and runner up in the combined run, the fastest single run, the most unlikely to make it to the finish – but did, top fundraiser. most enthusiastic run and the biggest crowd pleaser.

Race organiser Lee Griffiths said: “The point is to get people back in the town centre, to show them you can have a good day out in Pembroke Dock and that you can shop in Pembroke Dock town centre. That’s the point of the day.”

Sponsorship packages are available for local businesses which would like to be involved with the event.

Places are still available. Entry is £25 per team. Race details, rules and entry forms can be found on the ‘Dock Box Derby’ Facebook page. For more information call Lee on 07886 427901.
